DLP has been carrying out energy performance surveys and providing Accredited Energy Performance Certificates (EPC's) for domestic & commercial property since 2008. Our surveyor, Martin Shell is professional qualified (DEA, CEA, HEA, GDA). He also provides the Energy Saving Trust Endorsed Advice Service. 

The Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)

If you are selling or renting Domestic or Commercial property you are legally required to produce an energy performance certificate (EPC) for the property. 

The EPC rating is set against standard criteria to enable one building to be compared with another of similar type. The rating gives information on the energy performance as well as the environmental impact of the property through carbon emissions. This information is rated on a scale of A to G where A is the best. The average UK property is in bands D to E. 

The Survey: What's involved?

Domestic Property

The survey of a domestic property takes around a half hour. During the survey we inspect the general structure of your property and assess any improvements that may have been made to the structure that would help to increase the overall energy performance since it was first built.

Particular attention is paid to;

• Insulation (Loft) & Cavity Wall or External Wall insulation
• Windows
• Heating systems & Controls
• Water Heating & Storage Systems
• Lighting

Commercial Property

The survey of a commercial property can take an hour upwards depending upon the size & complexity of the building and its layout. Detailed information needs to be analysed to produce the EPC. 

Some of the items inspected are;

• Functions carried out in each area of the property
• Additional information on glazing
• Extraction rates
• Lighting types & there control
